Hear Rita tell her own story of transformation, from street child to school teacher, thanks to Global Care and our former partners in Honduras:
Hello, my name is Rita Medinez. I lived in Project Manuelito for 9 years. My family lived in very difficult circumstances: six of us children ended up living in Manuelito. I’m one of the oldest.
I went through some very difficult situations. Some of those situations were having to look after all my siblings when I was just a child – which was hard because I had to look out for them when I couldn’t even look after myself.
And we went through lots of difficult times before coming to Project Manuelito. For example, my father had alcohol problems, my mother was just not around… They were very difficult times, and because of that we went on the streets.
Becoming part of Manuelito
After some time is when we first had contact with Manuelito. This was a new hope and a light in the middle of such darkness. We began a new era in our lives. To live in a new era, to begin developing ourselves – I started to study.
Also, God started working in my life. He restored me. Because I was too old for the normal system I started studying in a special program and after this I was able to go into higher education to train as a teacher.
So I finished my studies and I became a primary school teacher. Since then I have been to university and now I have a bachelor’s degree in Spanish. I’ve finished all my studies.
A brighter future
Despite the difficulties I had in my family with my sibling sand many struggles, we have been able to move forward. This is my 8th year on staff in Project Manuelito and it’s a blessing to be able to serve in the place where I was brought up. To be able serve the other children – to be a blessing and an instrument of God. To be able to bless the lives of others.
I am so glad to be a teacher at Manuelito, to be able to work with them and serve God. I am the school’s Spanish teacher as well as the Art teacher.
Loving the least of these
I’d like to give a special thank you to Global Care and congratulate them on their 35th anniversary. Thank you for your love and your passion for the children. Thank you for simply believing in the children and young people. You are affecting many lives through what you do, through your donations and through your work.
Thank you, Global Care, for loving children. The Bible says, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40).
So really talking about these children – I am one of them. Thank you for your love and care. It’s thanks to people like you that I am here today. I hugely appreciate you.
I pray that God continues to prosper you and provide for you and all the donors. To those people who pray especially. Thank you from the bottom of my heart in the name of my family. I hope you continue to see the harvest of the seeds you have sown. May God bless your lives and your organisation. Thank you very much.
Our partners in Honduras rescue children from the streets, house them, mentor them, and give them the education they need to build new lives.
Over 60 children have been cared for by Project Manuelito since 2010. Over 60 children given safety, given education and given hope for new life – just like Rita.
