The 2.6 challenge is a national fundraising campaign to support the work of charities affected by the loss of major annual spring and summer fundraisers, due to the coronavirus lockdown.
Massive events like the London Marathon raise millions for charity every year. Closer to home, Global Care was planning its own adrenaline-fuelled challenge, Take A Risk 2020. We expected this to raise around £20,000 for our Children At Risk fund – the very fund we are now using to help our partners around the world support vulnerable families in the face of this pandemic. .
In the response to this loss of income, the UK’s mass participation sports event industry has come together with thousands of charities to create The 2.6 Challenge, a nationwide fundraising campaign to raise money for UK charities on Sunday 26th April, and in the following few days.
Can you join us, and be a #heroathome? Let’s get moving, by taking part for Global Care and helping to raise money for our Children At Risk programme, supporting our Coronavirus Crisis Appeal
How can you help?
- Dream up an activity based around the number 2.6 or 26 that suits your skills (and follows government guidelines on exercise and social distancing); the crazier and more creative the better! Can you walk 2.6km? Run 2.6 miles in laps around your garden? Hop for 26 minutes…. or maybe even flip 26 pancakes! Game… drum… dance… be silent for 2.6 or 26 hours? Would your friends or family sponsor you £26 for every 2.6 miles you run?
