I want to help

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand…” Isaiah 41:10

Friday 1st – Saturday 9thThis week we pray for our partner DS and for the families he supports in Karenni state, and we remember World Teacher Day on 5th October. We pray for an ‘awayday’ for UK staff.

On Friday give thanks and pray for our partner DS and his family whose lives have been severely disrupted by both the military coup and pandemic restrictions in Myanmar. Pray for their safety, and for good health.

On Saturday pray for an end to the political turmoil, violence, and months of fear and uncertainty for the people of Myanmar. Pray for wisdom for international agencies discussing potential involvement in bringing about a peaceful conclusion.

On Sunday pray for protection for children, families, and primary teachers supported through Global Care. Pray children can attend school without fear and pray older children can travel safely to live in villages away from home where they attend high school.

On Monday pray for children worldwide who have missed months of school and particularly for children who do not know when they can permanently return to full-time school. Pray for teachers and Global Care partners who support children’s education during lockdowns.

On Tuesday, World Teacher Day, give thanks and pray for teachers, who continue to work under immense pressure and uncertainty. Pray they are committed to ensuring children receive equitable quality education whatever their circumstances.

On Wednesday pray for teachers and pupils we support through ‘informal’ schools in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, and Cambodia. Pray children will be equipped to progress to formal education at government primary schools.

On Thursday pray for children who receive free education at formal schools run by our partners in Kenya and India.  Pray staff teams will be able to retain teachers. Pray for the Global Care UK team who are attending a staff ‘awayday’ today.

On Friday pray for our partners at House of Hope in Damascus, Syria. Pray for children who attend House of Hope and receive basic literacy and numeracy tuition, and a safe space to play and access therapeutic support.

On Saturday give thanks for Global Care sponsorship, which enables children in Uganda, Guatemala, and Zimbabwe to access formal education at government schools. Pray that schools in Uganda and Guatemala will open again soon. Pray for children with disability in our Uganda programmes.

Sunday 10th – Saturday 16th: This week we remember the International Day of the Girl Child on 11th and the International Day of Rural Women on 15th.

On Sunday pray for girls and women worldwide. Pray they will live free from gender-based violence and harmful practices. Pray girls and women can receive education and learn new skills towards the futures they choose for themselves.

On Monday, the International Day of the Girl Child, pray for strength and wisdom for adolescent girls and girl-led organisations who are leading efforts towards positive social change in their communities and nations.

On Tuesday pray for girls in our projects for whom the coronavirus pandemic has meant an increase in household chores and responsibilities or working to supplement household incomes. Pray their families will be positive about them returning to school.

On Wednesday pray for our partners in Albania and Sri Lanka, and the women and children they support who experience discrimination and domestic violence. Pray for protection for girls growing up in these families.

On Thursday pray for inclusive and equitable quality education and access to lifelong learning for girls living in remote and rural areas. Pray for our vocational training partnerships in Uganda, and for the women who gained teaching diplomas in our South Sudan project.

On Friday, the International Day of Rural Women, pray for recognition of the needs and rights of rural women worldwide and give thanks for their huge contributions to sustainable development, household food security, safeguarding traditional knowledge and peacebuilding.

On Saturday pray gender equality initiatives will empower women and girls. Pray for our partners in Ethiopia and Zambia working to uphold the rights of women in their communities and enable them to start income generating businesses.

Sunday 17th – Saturday 23rd: This week we pray for our partners and children at Spurgeons Academy in Kibera slum, Kenya and for partners Love Your Neighbour and their work at Home of Love in Bangladesh.

On Sunday give thanks for the team at Spurgeons Academy. Pray for blessing and inspiration as they seek to support families whose lives are affected by increased unemployment and huge pay cuts associated with pandemic restrictions.

On Monday pray for peace and for the physical and mental well-being of children living in this turbulent and troubled environment. Pray children at Spurgeons rebuild educational knowledge and skills lost during school closures.

On Tuesday pray for children whose safety is compromised by poor housing, and for children whose families moved to rural villages where life is relatively cheaper than in the city. Pray for good jobs for adults who struggle to pay rent.

On Wednesday give thanks and pray for the Home of Love team. Pray for blessing, and for good health as Bangladesh recovers from a further pandemic crisis. Pray for wisdom as the team consider how to implement a Covid-safe facility.

On Thursday pray for agricultural initiatives at the home, which suffered from lack of rainfall earlier this year resulting in poor harvests. Give thanks for rain which came eventually and pray for abundant harvests next season.

On Friday give thanks and pray for the preschools, which provide basic education and equip children to move on to formal education. Give thanks for the teachers who delivered education to children’s homes when allowed to within coronavirus restrictions.

On Saturday pray for children at the preschools. Pray they are not disadvantaged by their inability to access online education and quickly catch up with lost education, and keep up with their peers when they return to school.

Sunday 24th – Sunday 31st: This week we pray for the UK Management Team and for the Uganda managers conference taking place this month. We pray for New Hope Children’s Home in Poi Pet, Cambodia, and our partners Victory Church Cambodia and their work in Tapouk village.

On Sunday pray for wisdom and vision for the UK Management Team as they continue to navigate changing international pandemic restrictions and overseas travel regulations. Pray for open communication channels and pray technological challenges do not affect online meetings.

On Monday pray for the Uganda managers conference taking place online this week. Give thanks for the Uganda team and pray for God’s wisdom and blessing on the meeting, and for productive discussions.

On Tuesday give thanks and pray for Titus and the team at New Hope Children’s Home (NHCH) who provide safety and support for orphaned and abandoned children.

On Wednesday pray for agricultural initiatives at NHCH which provide food for the children, with any surplus sold to generate income.  Pray the weather over the next few months is conducive to a profitable harvest next season.

On Thursday pray for plans for the NHCH preschool, which stalled because of the pandemic. Pray the preschool launches soon, to provide education for children who cannot access government schools and generate income to enable NHCH to operate independently.

On Friday give thanks for our new partners, Victory Church Cambodia, working in Tapouk village. Pray their hog rearing project enables families to generate sustainable income and provide for their basic needs without needing to travel long distances for work.

On Saturday pray for families taking part in the project as they learn how to care for and promote the growth of piglets. Give thanks for profitable piglet sales in June, providing revenue for families and our partner – to be reinvested in the project.

On Sunday pray families in Tapouk village understand the value of education for their children and encourage children to attend school. Pray for the new Tapouk village preschool which received investment from piglet sales, and which will start when lockdown lifts.
