THIS ITEM IS NOW SOLD OUT! Please consider buying one of our solar lamp gifts instead, or you can also contribute to the training costs of these vulnerable girls in Uganda by supporting our Christmas Appeal.

Give a vulnerable teenage girl in Uganda the edge she needs, by buying a skills training set of hairdressing equipment this Christmas.

This kit will give a girl all the equipment she needs to take part in a short training course at our Skills Training Centre in Soroti, Uganda. For just £25.50, you supply the scissors, combs, rollers and all the shampoos and hair products one girl needs for her training course, and our team will supply the training, mentoring and support.

Who will benefit?

When Covid shut schools for two years in Uganda, teenage girls from impoverished backgrounds were badly affected. Unable to access online learning, when they went back to school they failed crucial exams. Others were forced out of education to find casual work to help families struggling with debt and lost income. Still others got pregnant, or were pushed into early marriage.

Without the education they expected to achieve, these girls are not unable to progress to qualifications which give them access to better employment – effectively trapping them into poverty. They face a grim future of low-paid, unskilled labour with no future prospects.

However, you can help us give these girls the skills they need to earn a good wage. Our team in Soroti hope to help over 100 marginalised girls into skilled employment over the next three years, in trades including tailoring, hairdressing and baking.

Your gift will supply one girl with essential equipment needed for her training as a hairdresser, which she can take with her into her future career.

We’ll send you a postcard with space to write a message to the friend or loved one in the UK for whom you are buying this ‘alternative gift’, and we’ll deliver the hairdressing kit to the training centre in Soroti. Your card will be in a smart gift pack including a leaflet explaining what a huge blessing this skills training kit will be for a marginalised Ugandan girl.
