It’s hard to learn if you can’t afford exercise books and pens. How can you practice maths or master spellings?
For children in Malawi, poverty like this disrupts their learning every day.
This Christmas, you can equip a Malawian child for success. With a year’s worth of exercise books and pens, they’ll be able to study well at school and build skills for a better future.
Changing lives in Malawi
Our partners in Malawi are working in three schools – one primary and two secondaries – with a particular focus on girls. They are mentoring and supporting marginalised girls (and some boys) because they passionately believe in the value of education to break the intergenerational poverty cycle and to change lives for good.
Yet they see that rates of school dropout are high and know that in some cases mentoring alone won’t be enough to keep children in school. For some children mentoring needs to come with practical support to overcome barriers to learning.
They have identified a group of 50 exceptionally vulnerable children across the three schools, whose parents are struggling to provide any educational support.
This Christmas, this gift ensures that one of these children receives 27 exercise books covering their needs for one whole school year – nine books per term – and a supply of pens.
This will equip them to go to school with confidence; they can complete their class work and learn effectively.
A Christmas gift that transforms a whole year
When you donate this alternative gift on behalf of a friend or family member, you’ll receive a postcard and leaflet to give them. It explains the impact essential learning tools have on a child’s development, and shares a story of how a child’s life has been transformed by such simple things as pens and exercise books.
