I want to help

At Harvest we celebrate our many blessings. For all of us, thanking God for our ‘daily bread’ involves considerably more than just bread.

This Harvest, can you remember the needs of vulnerable communities around the world who do not enjoy the same abundance? For too many families known to our international partners, acquiring any food to eat each day is still a major challenge.

The ongoing impact of COVID-19

The coronavirus pandemic continues to bring fear and misery around the world. We know our own nation has not been exempt. But, as ever, the world’s poorest citizens have been hit the hardest. Hunger is still increasing in many countries, reversing years of development gains.

“Even before COVID-19 reduced incomes and disrupted supply chains, chronic and acute hunger were on the rise due to various factors including conflict, socio-economic conditions, natural hazards, climate change and pests. COVID-19 impacts have led to severe and widespread increases in global food insecurity, affecting vulnerable households in almost every country, with impacts expected to continue through 2021 and into 2022.”       World Bank, 16 July 2021

What are we doing about it?

We’ve been using our Children At Risk fund to reduce Covid impacts worldwide since March 2020, including feeding hungry families. By the grace of God and your generosity, we have already raised over £180,000 to deliver this vital aid, saving lives in 11 countries on four continents. Thank you! Most recently we sent £12,500 to Uganda. We fed almost 600 families hit by the latest lockdown, as Covid cases surged.

Sadly, as we all know, it’s not over yet. We need to continue offering coronavirus-related support, including emergency feeding. Initial funds will feed struggling Dalit families in Patripul, India, and encourage their children back into education when possible. But the need is much broader than this single community: We’d like to raise £20,000 this Harvest to support this vital work and meet other needs as they arise.
