I want to help
  • Our projects liberate children and help them to realise their potential.

Our international partners work to create sustainable, stable initiatives, offering long-term solutions to lifting families out of poverty.

And it’s our UK Change-Makers that make it possible.

    Become a change-maker today

    I want to help
  • Why Give to a Change-Maker Project?

Support the most vulnerable children as a Change-Maker.

    • It’s reliable, strategic & sustainable – our international partners can plan effectively, and build long-term, rather than settling for a short-term fix.
    • It’s flexible – you can sign up for one year, three years or ten – it’s entirely up to you! If you wish, you can work with us to shape what your change-maker offer looks like.
    • It’s a partnership – we can tell you where your money goes, about the difference it is making, the lives it is changing.

  • Why We Need Change-Makers

Often we look for Change-Makers for initiatives unsuitable for child sponsorship.

    child with disabilitiesThis includes:

    • Projects with a high turnover of children, as at the GCare Centres in Patripul, near Mumbai.
    • Projects where children are only with us for a few years, such as our School Clubs for children in Syria.
    • Projects that enable an existing sponsorship scheme to develop other initiatives in support of children, as in Uganda, where partner schools and disability groups have benefitted from funds from Change-Makers.

Change-Makers are there when the needs of vulnerable children are not best met by sponsorship, but they have the same driving vision: to break the poverty cycle by increasing access to education for the most vulnerable children.

We also have The Engine Room: this project funds all the essential work that underpins the success of our sponsorship programmes and projects around the world.

  • How We Keep You Informed as a Change-Maker

When you become a Change-Maker, you get the opportunity to see how a project develops and transforms the lives of vulnerable children and the communities in which they live. You will receive:

    • News of progress and challenges from their project and community
    • Apply to join occasional project visits – see the impact for yourself

  • Where does your money go?

Children in your project receive education and welfare care, and other services, depending on the project you choose. Our local staff and partners are on hand to provide support and guidance to struggling families, in and outside the home.

Accountability is important to us. For every £1 of donated money we spend in the course of a typical year:

93p – Charitable activities – costs of running our projects to support vulnerable children and their communities.
4p – Fundraising – raising funds and building awareness.
3p – Governance – fulfilling our legal requirements as a charity.

These figures reflect the way we spend sponsorship donations. You can see figures related to expenditure for the whole charity on The Engine Room page.

    • Arlene's Story

*Arlene's story could easily have ended so differently, with the poverty cycle grinding on for another generation. Thank God for child sponsorship, which offers committed support until the vulnerable child is a strong adult.
    • Micha under the stairs with her sister

      Studying Under The Stairs

*Micha’s father already had ten children by his first wife, when Micha and her brother were born to his second wife. Massive tension between the two women meant the family home in the slums of Kolkata, India, was a place of quarrels and strife.
    • Reina as a teacher, outside her classroom

A Hand Up Not A Hand Out

The odds were stacked against *Reina, who was born with sickle cell anaemia in a desperately poor family in northern Uganda, and then experienced the trauma of being displaced by rebel insurgents at the age of seven.
