Sometimes, young people from impoverished families come so close to success – but need help to clear a final hurdle.
Others don’t have such a positive end to their education – maybe they drop out too early or barely pass their exams.
How can we help these young people take the final steps to success?
*Mhuvi and *Hondo in Zimbabwe are both orphans who completed vocational training thanks to their sponsors. However, they both needed tools to begin working. The Moving Forward Fund purchased Mhuvi’s mechanics’ tools (pictured) and Hondo’s builders’ tools. Mishack, our partner in Zimbabwe, says, “you have literally equipped these young men to face life outside the care system without fear.”
A grassroots solution
Global Care has been working with our partners around the world to tackle this challenge. Of course, there is no ‘one size fits all’ answer – each young person faces unique challenges.
Thankfully, the personalised ‘grassroots’ nature of our work means bespoke solutions are possible, as our local partners fully understand the challenges of each family and each community.
One such solution is our Moving Forward Fund, started with the help of a generous donor committed to helping young people take their final steps to success.
*Chahna is an orphan previously supported by our partners in Bangladesh. In late 2024, against all the odds, she completed a three-year diploma in nursing science and midwifery with top grades – a massive achievement.
However, to become fully qualified, she needed to complete a mandatory six-month internship in a government hospital.
But Chahna had no funds to cover the fees, accommodation, food or general living costs. She was devastated, telling our partners that being unable to complete this final stage would be “a disaster” after all her hard work.
In March 2025, Chahna was able to start her internship with all costs covered, thanks to Global Care’s Moving Forward Fund.
Nurses are in high demand in Bangladesh, and Chahna is guaranteed employment when the internship ends.
“I am very grateful to Global Care UK,” she writes. “I am confident that I will complete the training successfully and will be able to serve the people with utmost care and love for those needing medical treatment in any hospital in Bangladesh.”
The right step forward for each child
Our support for young people through the Moving Forward Fund is always bespoke, matching the skills, situation and motivations of the young people we help. Our partners identify young people facing barriers to good employment after education, and what’s needed to help them overcome those barriers. Your donation to the Moving Forward Fund enables us to meet those needs and see vulnerable young people enter the workplace with hope and confidence.
