Global Care’s Board of Trustees ensure that our activities as a charity remain true to our mission statement. They make sure we use the money you have given us in the best possible way, to truly impact the lives of the most vulnerable children worldwide. We carefully select our Trustees to give us a breadth of experience and expertise.

Our Trustees: Jane Edwards

Jane is married to Chris. They have lived in Coventry since 1989, returning to the UK after teaching in Kenya for three years, including being part of the team which established a secondary school. They have two married daughters and two grandchildren. Jane and Chris are members of Jubilee Church.

Jane worked within Coventry’s Adult Education Service for 28 years and has extensive experience of volunteering, teaching, recruiting and managing people and projects. She oversaw academic learning opportunities for adults across the city, particularly focussing on partnerships in priority neighbourhoods alongside both national and local organisations.

She has been a trustee of Global Care since May 2019, bringing to the board her experience of living and working in an international context.

Jonathan Foss, PhD

Jonathan Foss is a Teaching Fellow at the University of Warwick, working in Computer Science. His PhD is in Computer Science, particularly focusing on the design of educational websites. He has experience in the acquisition of research and outreach funding, and developing collaborative international proposals. He has previously been a Director of Walsgrave Baptist Church Community Projects Ltd. This was set up to manage projects such as the creation of a multi-use games area within the community. Jonathan has been a supporter of Global Care since childhood and lives near Coventry.

Sue Matejtschuk, FCA

Sue joined the board of trustees in 2008 having been one of Global Care’s original child sponsors and Global Care’s first accountant, over 35 years ago. She is a Chartered Accountant (FCA) and is a member of the finance sub-committee .Sue is an active member of Grange Baptist Church in Letchworth Garden City. Sue has visited our projects in Uganda, and also our work in Zambia with a volunteer team from her church. Sue and Paul have two grown-up children and several Global Care sponsored children in Uganda and Zambia.

When not at her desk or acting as her church’s hospitality co-ordinator, Sue loves to read, helps Paul on their allotment, and is an avid ‘compér’ and keen committee member of the London Competitor’s Club.

Claire McCann, FCA

Claire, a Chartered Accountant, spent many years working for KPMG before  becoming a Corporate Accountant at Greggs plc. Married to Tony since 2007, she has two teenage children.

Over the years, she has served in a number of contexts, including becoming Chair of Governors at a Special Educational Needs school in North Tyneside. The role had it challenges – budget deficits, disciplinaries and a change of Head but also some amazing highs. Watching the annual Christmas celebration and seeing the achievement and enjoyment of the children was humbling and uplifting. She also spent some time serving on the school PTA, where her boys attended, as Treasurer.

Claire is excited about the opportunity to work with Global Care, especially in the current climate, when the work of others has been placed in such sharp focus.

Rev Keith Parr, BSc MA (theo)

Keith is a Baptist Minister serving in south west London. Having spent over 20 years in ministry posts in and around Coventry, he accepted the free transfer to Merseyside, serving in a town north of Liverpool. More recently Keith became the minister of Earlsfield Baptist Church, south west London. He gets excited over vision casting and asking awkward questions in meetings. His connection with Global Care started just after he gave his life to Christ, eventually becoming a Trustee, and now Chair of Trustees.

When he is not preaching and teaching or being serially disappointed over his beloved Spurs (that’s the football team) or believing he is a great guitarist, he reads a ridiculous amount, and (when he can) disappears to Scotland to walk and write. But he is really happiest when drinking coffee and talking about Jesus, as the staff of numerous coffee shops in Earlsfield will testify.

Janet Powell

Janet has over 40 years of experience in education, as a secondary school teacher. Throughout her varied teaching career she has also held senior pastoral roles within schools, always with a particular interest in supporting students with special educational needs (SEN) and social disadvantage. At different points in her teaching career, this led to her studying for a Masters degree in Dyslexia, as well as a Level 2 qualification in British Sign Language. Towards the end of her career, Janet moved out of mainstream classrooms and became fully immersed in SEN, supporting students with complex needs, before she retired in 2023.

Janet, who is married, is also a Coventry Street Pastor, and a trustee of another local charity helping marginalised young people. Janet became a trustee of Global Care in 2024.

Helen Tucker, LLB Hons, Solicitor

Helen joined the trustees in 2017. She was keen to remain involved with Global Care after taking part in a volunteer team visit to Uganda with her son. Helen has been a solicitor for over 20 years and works as a partner at a Birmingham law firm. She is passionate about seeing justice done for children in need around the world.

Helen is married to Adam and has two sons. The family sponsor a number of Global Care children. She is an active member of Lawrence Saunders Road Baptist Church in Coventry, involved in the youth group and music and worship.
