  • Child sponsorship is a gift that keeps on giving.

Your sponsorship enables a vulnerable child in extreme poverty to access vital welfare support and education. Education gives children the skills they need to break out of poverty, forever.

  • Why Sponsor a Child?

Global Care works in some of the poorest nations in the world, sponsoring some of the most vulnerable children, living in extreme poverty. Despite their desperate circumstances, sponsorship gives a vulnerable child a bright future. Sponsorship pays for essential healthcare. It provides meals to enable growth and development. It provides uniform for school and the equipment to learn.

Most important of all, sponsorship ensures a child has access to education.

    • Children born into poverty who can access education are proven to break the poverty cycle and become successful independent adults.1
    • Their education can help their whole family escape the poverty trap, often for generations to come.

  • What you receive as a Sponsor

As a sponsor, you will receive a welcome pack introducing you to your child. This is the beginning of a wonderful journey!

Throughout their education, you will receive:

    • A photo of your child, with their profile and family story
    • A yearly education, health and welfare report for your child
    • Two personal letters or drawing from your child each year
    • An updated photograph every year
    • News of progress and challenges from their project and community
    • You can write to your child, and you may even be able to visit your child and their community!

  • Where does your money go?

Through your sponsorship gift, your child receives education, clothing and essential materials. Our local children’s worker provides committed welfare and medical support, both at school and in the home.

Accountability is important to us. For every £1 we spend supporting projects, in the course of a typical year:

93p – Charitable activities – costs of running our projects to support vulnerable children.
4p – Fundraising – raising funds and building awareness.
3p – Governance – fulfilling our legal requirements as a charity.

These figures exclude costs relating to our charity shops. You can see figures related to expenditure for the whole charity on The Engine Room page.

  • What happens when my child leaves the project?

When your child completes their education, we’ll send you a final photo and report reflecting on their achievements and the difference your sponsorship has made. We’ll also include details of another child from the same project who is waiting for a sponsor, so that you can change the life of another child if you wish.

However, the children on our sponsorship programmes are from vulnerable circumstances, which means life is often volatile for them. Our partners work very hard to support children and keep them in school, but sometimes a child will leave sponsorship before completing their education.

If this happens, we will pass on as much detail as we can about what led to them leaving the sponsorship programme. We’ll also offer you another opportunity to sponsor another child at the project who is waiting for a sponsor.

Incredibly, every year a child spends in education increases their earning potential by upwards of 10%Citation. Even in circumstances where a child leaves education early, the years of sponsorship they have received have a significant impact on their future.
