Saturday 1st – Saturday 8th: This week we pray for our Trustees who meet on Saturday, and for our project at Houtberg Childcare Centre in Chipinge, Zimbabwe.
On Saturday give thanks for our Trustees and pray for blessing on their meeting today. Pray for vision and insight as the team review existing programmes and consider potential new international partnerships and programmes.
On Sunday give thanks and pray for the team at Houtberg Childcare Centre. Pray for blessing and encouragement for Pastor Mishack and Lydia and their family as they work to ensure the safety and good health of the children in their care.
On Monday pray for families in the area still struggling to survive after last year’s cyclone and the impacts of climate change, which has led to unpredictable seasons for agricultural initiatives and unexpectedly cold weather.
On Tuesday give thanks and pray for all the orphaned or abandoned children who have become part of the Houtberg family. Pray for a period of good health and for protection from diseases which are rife in areas recovering from environmental disasters.
On Wednesday give thanks for donors who supported our appeals in the aftermath of the cyclone. Pray for improved access and reliability of electricity and water.
On Thursday pray for agricultural programmes. The current harvest is poor, due to lack of rain and unreliable electricity needed for irrigation systems. Pray for rain. Pray the next harvest provides enough food for the home and surplus produce to sell and generate income.
On Friday give thanks that the children can attend local schools and receive education – which was previously out of their reach. Pray the children receive the skills to live as independent adults.
On Saturday pray for peace in Zimbabwe which continues to face violent unrest and economic instability. Pray for the government to introduce measures to address severe poverty and inequality and improve infrastructure damaged during the cyclone.
Sunday 9th – Saturday 15th: This week we pray for our partners and their work at Spurgeons Academy in Kibera slum outside Nairobi, Kenya.
On Sunday give thanks for staff and children at Spurgeons Academy, pray for wisdom and inspiration for the local team. Give thanks for supporters who enable children to receive education, nutritious food, loving care, and medical support.
On Monday pray for teachers and children as they continue to cope with inconsistencies in the implementation of the new national curriculum. Pray for wisdom as the local team make decisions about purchasing new textbooks and when to send teachers for training.
On Tuesday pray for the team as they address the challenge of teacher retention. Pray teachers will be motivated to stay at the school despite the offer of better salaries at government schools.
On Wednesday pray for a solution to the expensive and erratic supply of clean water. Pray the school can access enough water to run the school each day.
On Thursday give thanks that our project provides healthcare, education and welfare and gives hope to desperate children. Pray for children affected by abuse and violence at home, for children affected by HIV/AIDS and for children with sickle-cell anaemia.
On Friday give thanks for the consistently good results achieved at the school and for the teachers and children who work hard to make this happen. Pray children have opportunities to continue their education at a higher level.
On Saturday pray for the feeding programme at Spurgeon’s which provides children with two meals a day. Pray for a great response to our Lent appeal starting on Ash Wednesday, 26th February, seeking funding for food for a year*.
Sunday 16th – Saturday 22nd: This week we pray for CEO John White and Patron Fiona Castle who travel to Thailand to meet with our Cambodian partner Titus, and Myanmar partner DS, and pray for our projects in Cambodia and Myanmar.
On Sunday give thanks and pray for Titus and the team providing safety, loving care, education and welfare support for orphaned and abandoned children at New Hope Children’s Home (NHCH).
On Monday pray for the children at NHCH. Give thanks that last year several children were reunited with families and pray that every child, however difficult their circumstances, has hope for the future.
On Tuesday pray for John and Fiona as they fly to Bangkok. Pray for a fruitful and safe trip. Pray for good health and uneventful travel throughout the next ten days.
On Wednesday, John and Fiona meet Titus. Pray for vision, wisdom and blessing for their conversations and for future planning.
Thursday is the UN World Day of Social Justice. Pray for John and Fiona travelling within Thailand to meet DS and pray for an end to discrimination and persecution for children from minority states in our two Myanmar projects.
On Friday pray for DS, who coordinates Global Care support for educational initiatives in Karenni state and works to help improve nutrition, welfare and healthcare. Pray for vision for the work, and for his safety.
On Saturday as John and Fiona meet DS and his family, pray for DS’s family, who spend weeks without him while he travels to support Karenni families. Pray the UK visitors bring blessing, encouragement and inspiration.
Sunday 23rd – Saturday 29th: This week we pray for Grace Children’s Home in Yangon, and for John and Fiona who travel to Myanmar to visit the project.
On Sunday pray for John and Fiona as they fly to Yangon. Pray they will be able to find time to rest today and pray for wisdom as they reflect on the last week and prepare to visit Grace Children’s Home.
On Monday pray for our partner Joshua and his family and the local team providing care and education for very vulnerable ethnically discriminated children. Pray local staff and children are blessed and encouraged by John and Fiona’s visit.
On Tuesday pray for good health for the children at the home, give thanks that through the project they can access education. Pray children realise their hopes for better futures. Pray for John and Fiona who fly overnight from Yangon to Heathrow.
On Ash Wednesday as John and Fiona arrive back in the UK and travel home, give thanks for their commitment to vulnerable children. Pray for blessing and inspiration as they reflect on their trip and prepare to report back to the UK team.
On Thursday pray for children in our projects in Myanmar. Pray for an end to their underinvestment and neglect. Pray they find hope and self-worth through the loving care of our partners.
On Friday pray for better access to infrastructure and basic necessities such as electricity and clean water for children in our Myanmar projects. Pray the government ends discrimination, injustice and inequality for ethnic minorities.
On Saturday pray for a period of prosperity, good health and stability for DS and Joshua and their families, for their work, and for the children they support.
