If you just want to make your £30 contribution, get fit and join in the fun, you’re welcome!
All funds raised will help Global Care provide two new temporary classrooms for pupils at Spurgeon’s Academy, a school in Kibera, a slum in Kenya. The school provides a top quality primary education, free of charge, for more than 400 of the most vulnerable children in the slum. Staff do an amazing job of caring for these children, all of whom are from families in poverty, affected in some way by HIV/AIDS. Pupils aged from three to 14 benefit from a wonderful package of welfare and support, including two meals a day at school, as well as a good education. You can read more about the school here.
Sadly, however, the school closed in lockdown in March 2020, along with schools, shops and institutions across Kenya, and cannot re-open fully until it complies with government requirements for social distancing. As classes were already overcrowded, with up to 45 students each, this is a major challenge! Initially staff plan to use tents in order to re-open in a Covid-secure way, but this is not a long-term solution.
In order to provide a teaching enviroment which is both safe and secure, Global Care has committed to building two temporary classrooms on the school site. Your donations will help make this happen. The school will move to a new building at some point in the next five years, so we cannot build permanent classrooms. However we need to keep the children safe, and learning, before this happens!
